According to 7 News WSVN Miami, former Miami Dolphins cornerback and first-round draft pick, Vontae Davis, has passed away at the age of 35-years-old.
He was reportedly found dead at his grandmother's home and per police, "no foul play was involved".
Davis was selected by the Dolphins in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Illinois. He appeared in 44 games, which included 36 starts and managed to rack up nine interceptions, including a pick-six, and 32 pass deflections during that span. He also recorded 149 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and one sack.
The Dolphins traded Davis to the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2012 season, where he spent the next six seasons of his career. During that time, he started all 76 games in which he started and he amassed 13 interceptions and 65 pass deflections, as well as 245 total tackles, five tackles for loss and a sack.
He then joined the Buffalo Bills in 2018, where he famously -and abruptly- retired during halftime of a game. In all, Davis finished his nine-year career with 22 interceptions, the aforementioned pick-six, 97 pass deflections, 395 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and a sack.
