The Miami Dolphins are looking to notch their biggest win of the year by beating the Baltimore Ravens, but they're going to have to do it without star running back, Raheem Mostert.
Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Mostert is expected to miss Sunday's showdown due to knee and ankle injuries that held him out of practice all week long. It's a huge blow for both the Dolphins' rushing attack and the offense, as a whole: Mostert leads the NFL with 21 total touchdowns on the year.
Additionally, the Dolphins will be without star wideout, Jaylen Waddle, who suffered a high ankle sprain during the Week 16 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Dolphins offense does not look the same heading into Ravens matchup
Missing two key players that completely change the dynamic of the offense is obviously not something any team wants to deal with heading into a game like this, but if there's any coach that get around it – Mike McDaniel is the guy.
There's a bit of a bright side to the injuries, as well. Miami knew Waddle was going to miss this game before the week even started and if they didn't, they had a damn good idea he was going to. And, with Mostert not practicing, McDaniel and co. had an idea he wouldn't go, either.
Therefore, they were allotted some extra time to cook up a game plan that doesn't require those two to be involved, as much. No one is saying they re-drew the playbook or anything like that – they are going to try and scheme the plan around what the replacements do best.
And, fortunately for the Dolphins, the replacements have similar traits to Waddle and Mostert. We've already seen what De'Von Achane can do in this offense and Cedrick Wilson sure as hell isn't Waddle, but he's shown the ability to make plays. Don't forget about Tyreek Hill, either. His presence, alone, will open things up for the others.
It's not going to be easy, by any means. Especially considering the Ravens have arguably the NFL's best defense. Having both Waddle and Mostert would be huge and would go a long way toward earning a dub, but at the same time, Miami is still in a good spot to snag a win.
