Mike McDaniel just gave us all a major update on the offensive outlook for the Dolphins on Sunday against the Chargers
Mike McDaniel offered a major update for Dolphins fans about player availability on Sunday.
The Miami Dolphins are set to undertake another bid of securing a win on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. With the team sitting at 1-4, the Dolphins are facing suffocating pressure from the outside. Their ability to handle all of that noise on Sunday is going to be vital to pulling off a victory — although it’s also going to be decided in part by who the Dolphins are going to have at this disposal.
Per head coach Mike McDaniel on Friday morning, there is some extra clarity of which prominent players for Miami fall on either side of that coin.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to start, McDaniel ‘hopeful’ for center Aaron Brewer

The Dolphins have seen center Aaron Brewer serving as a limited participant throughout the week of practice. His quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, was a full participant in Thursday’s practice despite being listed on the injury report with both hip and left thumb injuries.
Per McDaniel, Tagovailoa will start. The hip issue for Tagovailoa, per McDaniel, is “unrelated” to his ailment last year.
“Different hip than last year. Same hip, but completely different injury — unrelated to any other hip issue is what he was getting treated for,” said McDaniel.
Aaron Brewer’s career with the Miami Dolphins
- Brewer signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Dolphins in 2024
- Has started every game for Miami since signing his contract last season
- Currently ranked as Pro Football Focus’ No. 2 center in football in 2025
Brewer, on the other hand, did not receive the same inspired vote of confidence from McDaniel — but he is hopeful.
“Physically, that would be unknown. I would say I’m hopeful just based on the ‘captain’ (and) leader that he is. But that will be to be determined. We’ll see how he progresses.”
Losing Brewer would be a major blow to an offense line in Miami that’s already playing without the entire right side of the offensive line and two of their prominent backups in Liam Eichenberg and Andrew Meyer. Given the depths of hilarity that Miami’s health issues along the offensive line have endured in recent years, you can’t even make it up. But here’s to the Dolphins not having to find out what life without Aaron Brewer is like — even if we already know we won’t have to be subjected to life without Tua Tagovailoa to start on Sunday against the Chargers.
