The Minnesota Vikings stumbled against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5, falling to 1-4 on the season.
It wasn't all bad, but it definitely wasn't all good either. The Vikings struggled in some of the same ways they've been struggling all season. One positive is that Kirk Cousins didn't turn the ball over at all.
Let's get into our four winners and three losers from another disappointing loss.
Winner: Greg Joseph

Joseph was perfect on the day, converting 2/2 extra points and 2/2 field goals. Joseph makes the list for continuing to be a reliable veteran option and for breaking the team’s first-quarter scoreless streak.
Joseph booted a 40-yarder through to put the Vikings on the board in the first quarter for the first time this season. It would be nice to see the Vikings score a TD in the first quarter, but a field goal is better than nothing.
Loser: Josh Oliver

The Vikings just cannot go one game without turning the ball over. Oliver had just one catch for 15 yards, and that one play resulted in a lost fumble. Did I mention this was the first play of the game?
Yep, the Vikings started off the game in the most Vikings' way possible. Oliver was a no-show after that point. The tight end is solid in the run game, but even that was of no use in Week 5. Oliver is a highly-paid veteran- the Vikes can't have players like him making costly mistakes.
Winner: Jordan Addison

Addison had a good game, all things considered. Considering Justin Jefferson was essentially a non-factor, Addison had to bear the majority of the load for the offense.
Jefferson was shadowed by the Chiefs' best corner and also dealt with a lower-body injury. In his place, Addison led the team in receptions and yards, finishing with 6 catches for 64 yards and 1 score. It's encouraging to see the rookie making plays early in his career, but he's not ready to do everything for the offense.
Loser: Justin Jefferson

It’s not Jefferson’s fault, but he has to be included. Jefferson had to leave the contest with a hamstring injury. Before the injury, Jefferson had just 3 catches for 28 yards, by far his lowest total of the season in both categories.
Here's to hoping Jefferson heals soon because this Viking offense desperately needs it;s best player.
Winner: Marcus Davenport

Not counting the Eagles game in which Davenport played just four snaps, the edge rusher has had a sack in both games he’s fully played in.
The veteran has proven to be a valuable asset when healthy, as he and Danielle Hunter are the only defenders to get any consistent pressure. Davenport ended the day with 3 QB hits, 1 sack, and 4 tackles. If Davenport can stay healthy, he and Hunter could be one of the better pass-rusher pairings in the league.
Loser: Alexander Mattison

Once again, the Vikings struggled to get anything going on the ground. The team ended with just 70 total rushing yards. Mattison took 8 carries for 26 yards, again averaging under four yards per carry.
To be fair, the offensive line was once again bullied by an opposing defensive line. The line struggled to get any push and Mattison was often hit before reaching the line of scrimmage. Additionally, it's hard to establish the run game when you're playing from behind all day.
It's no coincidence that the Vikings' lone win came on a day when the rushing attack was consistent.
Winner: Kirk Cousins

Cousins is a winner simply because he did not turn the ball over. For the first time this season, Cousins went an entire game without throwing an INT or losing a fumble.
Cousins did fumble once, but it was recovered by the Vikes. The QB ended the day going 29/47 for 284 yards and 2 TDs. Cousins again was facing pressure all day long, getting sacked three times and getting hit 12 times.
There's plenty of blame to go around, but Cousins shouldn't be pointed at.
