This is quite a surprise considering what the Colts knew they were getting in Richardson when they drafted him fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Drart. He was an incredibly raw prospect that needed the Josh Allen treatment: let him learn while getting live reps.

He needed that time. In college at Florida, he only started 13 games and has started 10 since he joined the Colts. This season, Richardson has completed 44.1% of his passes with four touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The move to Flacco sends a lot of interesting signals, including that they are quitting on Richardson. That is apparently not the case.

How Richardson responds to this benching will be crucial for his development, but it's not a great sign for him. It also allows the Vikings to plan for a subpar quarterback in Flacco.
