The Minnesota Vikings only made one draft pick in the trenches, and that was LSU defensive tackle, Jaquelin Roy. Just under two weeks after he was selected, Roy now has his contract right before rookie minicamp kicks off at the end of the week.
Roy inked a four-year deal for $4,179 million with a $339,772 signing bonus.
Roy's base salaries:
2023: $750,000
2024: $915,000
2025: $1,030,000
2026: $1,145,000
The Vikings made the playoffs last season. However, what gets overlooked is that they were 31st in total defense and 20th against the run. So, adding Roy at 6'3" and 305 pounds with the athleticism to shoot gaps against the run and get pressure on the quarterback was smart.
Minnesota selecting Roy can be looked at as his football journey coming full circle.
Roy grew up in Louisiana. The first time he put on a football uniform, it was for the Baton Rouge Vikings. So, this should give him a little more motivation to have a prosperous career in Minnesota.
Well, now Roy has a nice chunk of cash to get started with as well.
