The Minnesota Vikings continue to have wild injury luck. On Monday, it was revealed that a key starter is currently in the hospital due to a rare condition.
Per Kevin Seifert of ESPN, Jordan Hicks has been hospitalized with compartment syndrome.
WebMD describes compartment syndrome as:
Compartment syndrome occurs when excessive pressure builds up inside an enclosed muscle space in the body. Compartment syndrome usually results from bleeding or swelling after an injury. The dangerously high pressure in compartment syndrome impedes the flow of blood to and from the affected tissues. It can be an emergency, requiring surgery to prevent permanent injury.
The condition developed due to a bruised shin Hicks suffered during the win in Week 10. It's encouraging that Kevin O'Connell says the linebacker is still hospitalized "out of caution," and not because of a complication. Most people with compartment syndrome fully recover if surgery is done promptly, which it was in Hicks' case.
Obviously, Hicks will not be able to play next week on Sunday Night Football. Without the veteran, it's expected that rookie UDFA Ivan Pace Jr. will be the signal-caller on defense.
Hicks is the team's leading tackler and is a respected captain of the team. We are hoping everything goes well and Hicks can return quickly.
