The Minnesota Vikings chose to move on from general manager Rick Spielman after the 2021 season. The decision shocked a lot of people, as many believed that he would end up being transitioned to another part of the Vikings' front office instead.

Since then, Spielman has been out of the league, instead choosing to work with both CBS Sports and The 33rd Team as an analyst. Those ventures have led Spielman back into the league.

On Monday morning, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the New York Jets are hiring The 33rd Team to support them on their search for both a new general manager and head coach.

This is an interesting strategy. The NFL media company, founded by Mike Tannenbaum, who will also be helping with the search, was formed to provide analysis from former coaches, scouts, executives and players.

Spielman and Tannenbaum have over 40 years of combined front-office experience and theoretically know what it takes to lead an organization. Is it the best move? That remains to be seen, especially since neither one has worked in the NFL for years, but Spielman saw the most success while running the Minnesota Vikings from 2006-2021 but held the title of top decision maker from 2011-2021.
