At the age of 23 years old, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson seems to invent new ways to surprise the football world on a weekly basis.
Jefferson’s 12 catches for 123 yards and a touchdown proved key in Minnesota’s miraculous comeback win over the Indianapolis Colts last week. However, performances like these are almost expected at this point.
Game-planning for Jefferson has to be one of the most strenuous tasks coaches face all season. With the New York Giants coming to town for Saturday’s Christmas Eve showdown, head coach Brian Daboll was asked what makes Jefferson such a tough matchup.
"One, he's extremely talented," Daboll stated. "He's got good quickness, good body control, can run any route. they line him up all over the place. I think they do a great job with him. He's hard to cover in man. He's got great awareness in zone. He's good after the catch. he can make contested catches. He's a problem."
Named to his third Pro Bowl in as many seasons on Wednesday, Jefferson has taken the league by storm. His 111 receptions and 1,633 receiving yards each rank first in the NFL.
With three games remaining in the regular season, Jefferson needs to average just over 125 yards per game to become the first receiver to record 2,000 receiving yards in a single season.
Vikings fans know Jefferson is a generational talent, but it’s always fun listening to opposing coaches describe how great Minnesota’s favorite football player truly is.
