Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins is having a good season so far. More impressive than most people realize.

Seventh in passing yards, 10th in passing touchdowns and seated firmly in the second seed in the NFC. At the moment, very few quarterbacks are playing better than the Vikings signal caller.

However, how much time does he have left at the helm? He signed an extension in the off-season, but the numbers don't necessarily indicate he will be here for the entirety of his deal. His cap figures are workable.

Cousins' cap number in 2023 will be $36,250,000 according to Over the Cap. With $30 million left guaranteed.

A trade with a pre-June 1st designation would free up $17,500,000 in usable cap space, with $18,750,000 in dead money in 2023 and $12,500,000 in 2024. Meaning they could have Cousins off the roster but still have to factor portions of his salary on their books for a few seasons.

For his career in Minnesota, Cousins is 43-32-1 (56.6-win percentage). Having thrown for 19,745 yards (fourth in franchise history), 144 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. All some of the best quarterback play in Vikings history.

However, father time is undefeated. A philosophy that sometimes gets forced on players rather than happen gradually.

First-year head coach Kevin O'Connell is among the most likely candidates for Coach of the Year. He's also only a few years older than Cousins. Will he and fellow first-year general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah continue on the straight and narrow or opt to go the rookie quarterback route?

With hotshot quarterbacks like Bryce Young, Will Levis, Caleb Williams, CJ Stroud and Sam Hartman coming into the league over the next couple of seasons, the Minnesota Vikings may opt to change the franchise sooner than later.

Unless Cousins can take the Vikings further than he ever has, we may see a changing of the guard. Regardless of price tag.
