Minnesota Vikings interim GM Rob Brzezinski talks about the offseason plan at the NFL Owners meetings, highlighting one key element
When the Minnesota Vikings fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, they didn’t get rid of the strategies he brought into the building.
The Minnesota Vikings’ moving on from general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was seen as the beginning of a new era. Rob Brzezinski took over as the interim general manager, but that was the only move they made in the front office.
The big thing Adofo-Mensah preached during his tenure was collaboration. That didn’t work out for a multitude of reasons. In speaking to the NFL Network at the owners’ meetings, that appears to be changing.
“It’s been amazing. The alignment that we’re trying to create, and we are creating with the coaching staff and the personnel staff has been amazing so far. We have a very, very talented coaching staff. We have an extremely talented evaluation staff, [both] college and pro. We have such a great team of players. Everybody’s been stepping up, working together, organically. It’s been great so far.

Highlighting collaboration feels like a shot at Adofo-Mensah, and rightfully so. It was meant to be a key element to this era of Vikings football. That shouldn’t be a surprise with all of the reporting that came out after Adofo-Mensah’s firing.
Where things get really interesting is with their free agency plan. They were very careful with how they maneuvered throughout free agency. Brzezinski confirmed that and more.
“We came in with the plan, a vision. We want it to be an organizational vision, as far as how we want to build this thing moving forward. We had certain things we were looking to do in free agency, and that included retaining some players that are really important to us, and also trying to work through some of the financial issues we have from the salary cap. I think we’ve positioned that well, working to put the best team on the field for 2026 but also so we can sustain it into the future. And that’s what we’re going to look to do, is build this one step at a time and so far so good.”

We know the salary cap issues were real for the Vikings, and they planned to maneuver intelligently. As a salary cap guru, Brzezinski knew that it was about the long-term health of the franchise. It was reflective of the entirety of their contract maneuverings.
They are taking things seriously when it comes to collaboration, but will the results be the same? Only time will give us that answer.
