The Vikings initially signed Romo to a two-year contract this offseason after he spent time in the XFL with the San Antonio Brahmas. They wanted to see a kicker competition and they got one during training camp. It was won by Reichard rather convincingly, who the Vikings took in the sixth round of April's NFL Draft.

Reichard going on injured reserve stinks for the Vikings because he's been really good. He made his first 30 kicks and is 33-35 on the season with his only two misses coming in Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts. He injured his quad and was seen during the game with a heat wrap on it.

The good news for the Vikings is that it keeps some level of continuity. Romo worked with the Vikings special teams during training camp and there will be a higher baseline of chemistry than there would be with anyone else. It's especially important because long snapper Andrew DePaola is also dealing with a hand injury.

Romo will be the kicker for at least four games barring injury or being replaced due to performance.
