One of Johnathan Greenard’s biggest competitors couldn’t help but describe his game in an unorthodox fashion

The Minnesota Vikings have one of the best edge rushers in the National Football League in Jonathan Greenard, and the players agree. They ranked Greenard 48th in the NFL’s Top 100.

This is quite the honor for Greenard, who emerged onto the scene in the 2023 season after his first three were marred by injuries. Playing on the opposite side of Will Anderson, Greenard thrived and elevated his game to another level with a career-high 12.5 sacks. He then signed with the Vikings ahead of the 2024 season, where the Houston Texans essentially traded with the Vikings to get Danielle Hunter. Well, the move worked out for both sides incredibly well.

This past season, Greenard was the engine behind the Vikings’ top 10 defensive unit. He logged 12.0 sacks and a career-high 18.0 tackles for loss. He was so good for the Vikings that Dallas Cowboys All Pro Micah Parsons has some strong words about how he feels about Greenard’s game.

“Absolute hooper.”

It’s true when you break down his film. Greenard has a bevy of moves to go after the quarterback, and also be incredibly disruptive in the running game. You name it, and Greenard can do it, even when it comes to dropping into coverage when defensive coordinator Brian Flores asks him to.

“He can spin right back super quick and not lose speed full 360 they did a crazy spin move and then make the sack,” said former teammate Camryn Bynum. “Everybody wants to work the spin move, but a lot of people put themselves out to play by spinning too wide and not being as clean on it. But his spin move is like and he’s able to get right up field and be able to get right inside of that tackle, to be able to make a play, get the stack able to do it all.”

Greenard is also a super confident player when it comes down to it, calling himself the best player regardless of position.

“I’m sorry. I gotta say myself, how we doing the amount of work I put in for this game. I feel like no one works harder than me or anything.”

The Vikings are in a great spot with Greenard, and it shows when he dominates on the field.
