Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has been suspended three games by the National Football League via the personal conduct policy stemming from his July 2024 arrest for Driving Under the Influence.
Vikings WR Jordan Addison suspended 3 games
This suspension was expected for the Vikings, as Addison was arrested back in July of 2024 and charged with Driving Under the Influence. The NFL has set the precedent that it warranted a three game suspension in previous instances, with New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye being given one recently in September of 2023.
Addison does have the right to appeal the suspension if he so chooses, and we don’t know if he either has or will choose to do so as of this writing.
If this suspension stands as is, Addison will miss the first three games of the season: at the Chicago Bears in week one and at home for the next two games against the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals.
This feels like a tough blow for the Vikings, which it is. With first-time starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy under center, giving him every ability to succeed is the smart path to take. However, the Vikings proved last season they can thrive without Addison.
Against the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans in weeks two and three last year, the Vikings played without Addison and won by scores of 23-17 and 34-7. They were able to manage without having him on the outside and thrived on the offensive side of the football both on the ground and through the air.
The biggest difference between this year and last year? T.J. Hockenson didn’t play last season. He is dealing with a minor groin injury right now, but is likely going to be back for the regular season. It also will require the likes of Jalen Nailor and Lucky Jackson to step up, as the former did last year.
It’s a frustrating thing for the Vikings, but it wasn’t unexpected.
