One of the biggest questions heading into the Minnesota Vikings' bye week was who the starting quarterback would be when the team got back to work in Week 14.

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell answered that question on Wednesday, naming veteran Josh Dobbs the starter.

"We will be starting Josh Dobbs in the football game on Sunday," O'Connell told reporters.

The Vikings' QB journey is far from over

This isn't a permanent decision, by any means.

With all due respect to Dobbs and his story – he's a journeyman backup for a reason. The veteran signal-caller hasn't been able to show he's worthy of a starting job when given the opportunity. Sure, he'll have great moments like his first two games as a Viking, but he always regresses to the mean, eventually.

Combine that with the pressure of the Vikings' current playoff status and it's easy to see why O'Connell could pull the plug on Dobbs at any given moment. Win or lose, every single week will have a huge impact on Minnesota's postseason chances and awful performances like Week 12's game against the Chicago Bears won't be tolerated when the playoffs are on the line.

Dobbs is obviously the most experienced quarterback on the roster, so the hope is the bye week allowed him to really settle in and get a good grip to where he can be very effective over these last five games.

It's going to be a very interesting ride over these next few weeks and you better believe that they'll play a big role in how the team goes about its business in the offseason.
