The joint practices between the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots were relatively uneventful outside of one skirmish between the Vikings’ offense and Patriots’ defense. However, the last play of the two-minute drill gave the Vikings a decent scare.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was running the two-minute drill, down 27-21 with one minute to go and just one timeout. He threw a deep pass to Kayshon Boutte and ended up completing it to win the drill. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only bad thing to happen for the Vikings on the play.
Josh Metellus leaves practice with injury
You can see in the above clip that safety Josh Metellus looks to be grabbing his left shoulder, as it appeared to get injured during the play. He was down on the field for a couple of minutes after the play, and you could visibly see his arm hanging as he walked off the field.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell gave an update after practice on Metellus, but it wasn’t a concrete one.
“Josh Metellus, towards the end of the two-minute [drill], just a little shoulder. You know, he’ll be evaluated. I’ll update you guys on that.”
It would be a tough thing to lose Metellus for any part of the season, as he’s a huge part of the defense for the Vikings. Metellus plays all over the defense, including lining up on the defensive line and dropping back into a deep safety.
It could be something major for Metellus, but he seems to feel good about his injury. He told reporters on his way out that he was fine.
We will see how healthy Metellus is once we get more information, but it’s not a great sign for now.
