If you've paid attention to Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings, at all, since he was drafted in 2020, then you had basically zero concerns regarding all the silly trade rumors and speculation that cropped up over the last several months.

The dude was never going anywhere. All it takes is to watch a single game of his and you know the Vikings would be crazy to trade him. Still, this is the NFL, and anything can happen, so, it's still nice to see him ink the four-year, $140 million extension he signed on Monday. Jefferson is now the highest-paid non-QB in league history and he deserves every bit of it.

And now, the Vikings have their QB-WR tandem of the future in Jefferson and rookie J.J. McCarthy.

The Vikings offense is locked in for the foreseeable future and the potential is promising

Jefferson is now under contract through 2028. Jordan Addison, last year's breakout rookie, is under contract through 2027 and that doesn't include his potential fifth-year option in 2028. T.J. Hockenson's deal isn't up until after 2027 and rookie J.J. McCarthy is entering the first year of what could be a five-year deal that keeps him locked up through 2029, at most.

Yea, I'd say when it comes to skill positions on offense, the Vikings are set for the foreseeable future.

This doesn't even include two more years of a budding Ty Chandler, at least two more years of borderline-elite left tackle play from Christian Darrisaw and three more years of borderline-elite right tackle play from Brian O'Neill.

If the Vikings can continue to build and fortify the interior of the offensive line, where they aren't great, but not bad, and if McCarthy turns out to be the guy the franchise envisioned when it traded up to take him in the 2024 NFL Draft, then this offense will be a force to reckon with over the next few seasons.

And, so far, we've seen Kwesi Adofo-Mensah work the salary cap to where he can keep the team competitive, as well. Meaning, the success could extend beyond the aforementioned window, above.

Jefferson was never going anywhere and it was silly to think he was

As we've already mentioned, this is the NFL – anything can happen. But Jefferson was never going anywhere and it was silly to think he would. All one needs to do is watch one single game of his and they'd realize that he is an elite talent that cannot be replicated. That kind of player always finds a permanent home in what is a cutthroat sport/business.

In my eyes, it was akin to the Justin Fields-Chicago Bears situation during the 2023 offseason. The Bears were adamant that Fields was their guy for that season and said it on multiple occasions, yet people wouldn't leave the topic of trading him alone. There's always a big name that gets circled around during the offseason and obviously, teams aren't going to divulge what they're doing behind closed doors. But at the same time, there are times when it's clear a franchise has zero intention of trading one of their big names and that was the case last year, as it was this year.

Jefferson is a foundational piece. A building block. Especially one that can make life so much easier for whomever is behind center. And, he's put the Vikings on his back, so many times and kept them in games they shouldn't have been in.

You don't ship that off, no matter what you're offered. Because, in the end, the chances a team lands another player like that are slim to none. No many how many chips they receive.
