Injuries haven't been much of a factor so far for the Minnesota Vikings, but things changed relatively quickly on Thursday afternoon. Wide receiver Justin Jefferson did partake in practice but was removed due to tightness in his legs.

Normally, this would be a concern, especially given Jefferson's importance to the team. It also matters a lot when you consider that Jefferson missed seven games in 2023 due to a severe hamstring pull.

Justin Jefferson removed from practice

If this were to happen during the season, it could end up being a big deal. Right now, the Vikings will just keep him out of practice for the time being until the tightness rescinds. There isn't a ton to gain from having him practice that makes it worth the injury risk.

It also gives opportunities to younger receivers who can step up into a bigger role, like Jalen Nailor and Rondale Moore.

Jefferson isn't the player who didn't participate in practice due to injury. Safety Josh Metellus was held out of practice due to an ankle injury, just one day after stating that it was important for him as a captain to be on the practice field.

Could this be something similar to what we dealt with when it comes to T.J. Hockenson in 2023? He was dealing with a supposed ear infection that was hindering him as he was allegedly holding in for a new contract. Could this be the same thing?

Even if it's not the case, the idea of it is at least worth discussing. Metellus made his statement on day one of training camp practice and that made a lot of sense. With a supposed injury after one day, it could be a way for him to safe face.

The other angle is that Metellus does have an ankle injury. The medical staff is usually uber conservative when it comes to injuries and there isn't anything to win right now.

We will get more information as time passes and will provide updates when we have them.
