Injuries are a major part of football, and the Minnesota Vikings are no different.

They have been a significant part of this season’s story, especially at the most important positions in football. They had quarterback J.J. McCarthy miss five games during his first year as the starter and multiple high-profile players, including running back Aaron Jones and left tackle Christian Darrisaw.

There are still some injuries the Vikings are dealing with across the board, and one of their best players suffer an injury in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Kevin O’Connell provides multiple positive injury updates

EDGE Jonathan Greenard

The biggest injury the Vikings are dealing with is edge rusher Jonathan Greenard. He suffered a shoulder injury in the third quarter when trying to tackle quarterback Lamar Jackson. Luckily, the Vikings got lucky with Greenard’s shoulder injury, and he could possibly return on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

Got some good news on Jonathan Greenard, see how he does throughout the week. He’s sore today, but you know, we’ll, we’ll, we’ll see if he can get a, get some time in this week on the practice field and potentially be available for this Sunday. But I do think we avoided a long term injury with him.”

Greenard is the best player on the Vikings’ defense, and it would be a massive blow to lose him for any amount of time.

S Theo Jackson

Jackson missed the game against the Ravens after suffering a mild concussion against the Detroit Lions the prior week. Luckily for the Vikings, Jackson cleared the protocol on Monday.

“Theo Jackson cleared the concussion protocol this morning, so he should be a full participant and be back this week,” said O’Connell.

Jackson hasn’t taken the steps that the Vikings would have liked for him to take this year, but having him back is good for flexibility on the back end.

TE Josh Oliver

The running game could become more of a focus for the Vikings, as Josh Oliver is set to return to practice this week.

“Josh Oliver should return to the practice field and work his way up to hopefully giving us some snaps on Sunday,” said O’Connell.

This is a big deal, as the effectiveness of the running game is better with Oliver on the field.

C Ryan Kelly

Kelly has been out for the last five games and missed six total games with concussions. He’s on track to potentially returning soon.

“Ryan Kelly, we’re still figuring out exactly when it takes place, but barring anything changing here, anticipate maybe opening his window at some point in time soon,” said O’Connell.

It’s a big deal getting Kelly to return. He is a really good player at center, and keeps thing stabilized for the young quarterback. Right now, Blake Brandel is playing well, but getting Kelly back will be a huge boon for the Vikings’ offense.
