The Minnesota Vikings needed to do something when left tackle Christian Darrisaw went down with a torn ACL and MCL against the Los Angeles Rams. The in-house options to replace him at left tackle weren't good enough.

In the end, the Vikings struck a trade for Cam Robinson from the Jacksonville Jaguars and it has already paid dividends. He played extremely well on Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts and even got a game ball from head coach Kevin O'Connell.

That wasn't the only thing he got from O'Connell.

Kevin O'Connell heaps praise on Cam Robinson trade

Just two days after the debut of Robinson, O'Connell made his weekly appearance with the voice of the Vikings Paul Allen on his 9-noon radio show and called it "one of the biggest moves we've done here."

It's a twofold comment. One, Robinson is the second-biggest player that I can recall they have brought in with Khyiris Tonga being the biggest at 350 lbs. Two, that's some incredible praise for a left tackle that has been maligned throughout his career. O'Connell praised general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah for making the move the day after the trade.

"We did acquire Cam Robinson via trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Compliments to Kwesi [Adofo-Mensah] and his group for being able to acquire a player like this. When you lose a player like Christian Darrisaw, it is so catastrophic because he means so much to your team, your offense, but also from a standpoint from losing such a veteran presence that we rely so much on, so when we find a player of Cam’s caliber in season like Kwesi is able to do, very much looking forward to getting him here."

Through one game, the Vikings didn't miss Darrisaw much as Robinson stepped into the role in a major way. Now, will that continue? Only time will tell if that ends up being the case. However, expecting him to be Darrisaw just isn't realistic. There will be some warts that we didn't have with Darrisaw in the game, but Robinson looks to be providing a level of stability that they desperately needed.
