When the Las Vegas Raiders agreed to trade edge rusher Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens, they did so knowing that he was still recovering from surgery on his meniscus. After having a physical with the Ravens, they pulled out of the deal.

It sent shockwaves across the league, and it left many asking questions about why the Ravens pulled out. Everyone knew that he wasn’t going to be ready until the summer, so they weren’t going into the physical not knowing about the injury. Even so, they didn’t feel comfortable with the injury and chose to back out.

It leaves a lot of questions coming out of this news. How will this impact the rest of free agency? It could also impact the trade market.

Minnesota Vikings can benefit with Jonathan Greenard

Through free agency, the Minnesota Vikings have been rumored to be willing to trade edge rusher Jonathan Greenard. On the surface, it didn’t make a ton of sense. He is the engine that powers the Vikings’ defense and a fantastic edge rusher.

Rumors and reports have been circulating that he would only fetch a day-two pick. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler linked the Philadelphia Eagles to a trade for Greenard, and I can confirm his report. They are the only team that has been linked to a trade for Greenard, but that could change.

With the Ravens having backed out of the trade, they are now open to being an option for Greenard. With new head coach Jesse Minter taking over, they have already shown the desire to upgrade their edge rusher room. Greenard isn’t quite the player Crosby is, but he can be an explosive difference maker in a similar light, as he registered 84 pressures and 12.5 sacks in the 2024 season.

The Ravens could very well be signing Trey Hendrickson after passing on Crosby, but that could then open up other teams to be interested in Greenard. The Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Los Angeles Chargers are teams who could potentially get involved.

Make no mistake about it, the Vikings shouldn’t trade Greenard and just give him a raise. However, they could still make the move.
