The Minnesota Vikings are going to be in an interesting position when they make their roster cuts to get to the final 53-man roster.

Over the course of the preseason and training camp, there have been multiple interesting players who have stood out in a big way. Those performances have made it more difficult for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah when it comes to final cuts. Even so, it’s never a bad thing to have more talented players to choose from.

Who are the players that are making the biggest case for the roster? A couple are obvious, but there is a sneaky one in there.

RB Zavier Scott

The running back spot has been a sore spot for the Vikings over the last few seasons. They have always been fine at the top, but it’s more about the depth at the position. In each of the last two seasons, the Vikings have struck a deal to trade for Cam Akers, because their depth was lacking.

Scott has been a really good player so far during the preseason. He leads the Vikings in rushing by a significant amount with 68 yards on 17 carries. He’s shown real burst and positive vision through the hole, while also running incredibly hard. Pair those elements with a positive output on special teams and he’s making a real effort to make the roster.

QB Max Brosmer

The biggest weapon on the Vikings’ offense has been Brosmer. With the backup quarterback spot being up for grabs, Brosmer has been performing at an incredibly high level. Starting at quarterback four, Brosmer has been taking major advantage of every opportunity he’s been getting, even if its just three reps during training camp practice.

When it comes time to play on gameday, you can tell that Brosmer is ready to ball out. He thrives in multiple ways under center, but his biggest strength has been with anticipation. Brosmer does a great job in attacking down the field and throwing with anticipation. Those elements are likely going to catapult him to the 53-man roster, possibly as the QB2.

DT Elijah Williams

The biggest surprise of training camp has been Williams. He wasn’t a UDFA signing right away, but rather earned a contract after rookie minicamp. That alone makes him more likley to make the 53-man roster, because he showed out with a bunch of players who had a contract.

Williams has been really good across the board, especially when rushing the passer. He uses really good hands in the trenches and has plus movement skills. Even with a really deep group on the defensive line, Williams has made it really difficult for the Vikings to risk putting him on waivers. It’s likely that he will make the roster, or at the very least, he should.

OG Joe Huber

The Vikings haven’t seen a lot of success in bringing in offensive linemen from a UDFA standpoint, but this year might be different. The masses, including myself, thought that Logan Brown would be the best performer from the UDFA class, but it’s been Huber.

The guard out of Wisconsin was excellent in the first preseason game, but took a step back against the Patriots. He’s versatile on the interior, including working on snapping the football after practice. The offensive line is likely set right now, but Huber could force them to keep a 10th player.
