Minnesota Vikings continue to be linked to talented defender who would reshape Brian Flores’ defense
We know Brian Flores can create pressure, and making that more impactful can come from the back end.
The Minnesota Vikings are down in Mobile, Alabama, keeping an eye on Senior Bowl practices. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has been watching the offensive and defensive line drills throughout the first two days, but NFL Draft experts believe they won’t be going to the trenches.
Through the first 71 selections in our mock draft tracker, 47 of the 71 selections have been at the cornerback position. With just Byron Murphy Jr. and Isaiah Rodgers being cornerbacks that defensive coordinator Brian Flores trusts, it easily could be a position the Vikings target early on in the NFL Draft.
Avieon Terrell continues to be a Vikings target
With cornerback being such a priority in the minds of the NFL Draft community, mock drafts continue to send a cornerback to the Vikings. Our staff at A to Z Sports released a three-round mock draft, and selected Clemson Tigers cornerback Avion Terrell for the Vikings.
“It feels like cornerback has been a need for the Vikings forever. While Terrell isn’t the biggest defensive back of all time, he has the tenacity and movement skills to provide versatility on the back end of a defense. Don’t be shocked if he gets some chances both on the outside, as well as in the slot.”
Terrell has been an incredibly popular selection for the Vikings. He’s been the top player in all mock drafts, getting 30 of the 71 selections. He’s one of the better cornerbacks in the class, and my personal CB1. He might be 5-11 and 180 pounds, but he plays much bigger than that. His ball skills are tremendous, and he won’t ever back down from a fight.
Not only does he have the fight in him, but Terrell thrives inside and outside, something that Flores prioritizes in his defensive backs. The only concern is his age. Terrell just turned 21 years old, and the only two cornerbacks the Vikings have selected with Flores as a defensive coordinator have been Mekhi Blackmon (24) and Khyree Jackson (24.5).
The team ended the three-round mock draft with Florida Gators center Jake Slaughter at 49th overall and Penn State Nittany Lions running back Kaytron Allen.
