The Minnesota Vikings have made multiple moves over the last few weeks to bolster the cornerback room and that work is continuing as the team is set to bring in cornerback Stephon Gilmore for a visit on Monday. The news was reported by Josina Anderson.
The cornerback room for the Vikings has been a question mark for years, especially this year. When you look at the room as it's currently constructed, the Vikings had hoped to have two more young cornerbacks in Khyree Jackson and Mekhi Blackmon in the rotation, but both will miss the 2024 season.
The team has added Fabian Moreau, Jacobi Francis and Nahshon Wright over the last few weeks to bolster the unit. However, Gilmore would elevate their baseline of play significantly
Gilmore was a starter last season for the Dallas Cowboys in his 12th season in the National Football League. He posted a solid coverage grade at 72.3 per Pro Football Focus allowing 50 receptions on 91 targets for 653 yards and four touchdowns.
A first-round pick in 2012, Gilmore spent four years with the New England Patriots, including two seasons with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores. He also has 31 receptions and 93 pass breakups in his NFL career, accumulating two and nine respectively in 2023.
This would be a phenomenal addition to a Vikings defense that needs quality bodies on it.
