The Minnesota Vikings are set to face the Las Vegas Raiders in week one of the preseason on Saturday, August 10th at U.S. Bank Stadium. It's that game where we expect to see rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy take the field for the first time in the National Football League.
There have been numerous highlights from the rookie during training camp practice, especially the wow throws that are expected of a first-round caliber quarterback. His consistency isn't quite there yet, but he's well on the road to being the guy for the Vikings.
McCarthy was asked about what he looked forward to seeing the most in his NFL debut and he had a hilarious response.
"Most eager thing to see is just the vanilla defense, honestly."
When you face Brian Flores' defense every single day in practice, it would be nice to get a change of pace. On McCarthy's first rep of 11-on-11s in training camp, Flores sent the house to see how the young rookie would react. He came out the next rep and threw a nice ball down the field.
Seeing how each player responds to different situations is honestly the best part about the preseason, as it helps with development and projecting a player's future with the franchise.
