How many teams in the NFL are more interesting right now than the Minnesota Vikings?
Everyone loves a good quarterback competition, and the Vikings are going to have arguably the highest profile one in the league this year between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy. Both players have a lot of talent, but staying healthy will be a big deal for both players, as it’s been an issue. That will be the majority of focus in training camp, and that could lead to the Vikings being the focus of the NFL.
Minnesota Vikings are the best choice for HBO’s Hard Knocks
If there is a team who was built to be on Hard Knocks’ training camp show it’s the Vikings. Not only do the Vikings have the quarterback competition, but they have superstar players like wide receiver Justin Jefferson who will be a massive attraction.
Last year, the rules for Hard Knocks changed, which made the Vikings eligible this season.
- Does not have a first-year head coach
- Is not a member of the division to be featured in Hard Knocks: In Season for the upcoming or immediately subsequent season
- Has not been featured in Hard Knocks: Training Camp in the previous eight seasons
- Is not then exempt from selection based on such Club’s participation in Hard Knocks or a similar access show prior to 2024 pursuant to parameters that existed at the time of such Club’s prior participation
The only potential roadblock is if the NFC North will be featured on the in-season series over the next two years, which is certainly a possibility. However, it would be smart for NFL Films to not have the NFC North over the next two years, as a Murray/McCarthy training camp battle would likely deliver huge ratings.
Would the Vikings want to be included on the show? My guess is no, as they aren’t the most open organization when it comes to the media, but this is something they can be overruled on since they meet all of the criteria for being on the show.
This is something that all Vikings fans, and honestly all NFL fans, should be clamoring for.
