The Minnesota Vikings go into the 2023 offseason with a new Defensive Coordinator, but questions surrounding the offense of a 13-4 team.
WR Justin Jefferson is looking to get a hefty extension, likely making him the highest paid receiver in the game. Making the futures of C Garrett Bradbury, DB Harrison Smith and WR Adam Theilen questionable considering their price points.
It also widens the lower possibility of bringing back TE Irv Smith Jr.
Smith returned from missing the entire 2021 season with a torn meniscus halfway through 2022 to play in eight games. With 25 receptions, 182 yards and two touchdowns in limited action following the trade to acquire T.J. Hockenson from the Detroit Lions.
The Minnesota Vikings have made no confirmations or leadings that they intend to bring Smith Jr back. Preparing to move on from him and focus entirely on Hockenson at the position.
Smith even giving love and a cryptic goodbye on his Instagram.
According to Spotrac, Smith Jr's estimated value is around $10.2 million per year. Which would make the Vikings the only team in the NFL with two tight ends who're among the 10-highest paid players on their payroll.
Despite having some of the best, most reliable hands on the team as well as a willing run blocker, the circumstances with the Vikings and where they will spend their money mean Smith will wear another team's colors.
