With the injuries to Christian Darrisaw and Will Fries, the backups are getting more playing time during the early portions of training camp. As we get closer to the first preseason game, the Vikings have bolstered the offensive line depth by signing offensive tackle Matt Taylor and waiving defensive tackle Alexander Williams with an injury designation.
The Vikings adding depth on the offensive line is likely a smart move heading into the preseason, as it will give them extra bodies for the final two preseason games. Taylor was an undrafted free agent out of Iowa in 2019 who spent his first five seasons with the Detroit Lions. During that time, Taylor played in 43 games with 14 starts. Of those 14 starts, 11 of them came in 2021. He spent training camp last season with the New York Giants, but didn’t make it out of roster cuts.
The Vikings moving on from Williams with an injury designation is frustrating for him, but it also means he likely gets an injury settlement from the team. He was an undrafted free agent this year out of Middle Tennessee who had also spent time at Ohio State.
The Vikings remain with 91 players on the roster.
