The Vikings have added a player to the RB room just one day after setting the initial 53-man roster.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Vikings have reached an agreement with former Dolphins RB Myles Gaskin.
Gaskin was cut by the Dolphins on Tuesday as the team plans to roll with Jeff Wilson Jr., Raheem Mostert, Devon Achane, and Salvon Ahmed.
The Vikings kept just three backs on their initial roster, leading many to believe a move like this could be coming. Alexander Mattison is the unquestioned starter, with Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu providing backup.
However, Chandler had an inconsistent summer and Nwangwu has been out with an undisclosed injury. Depth was clearly needed here and Gaskin provides that.
Gaskin was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Dolphins and lasted for four seasons in Miami. Gaskin's most productive season was in 2021 when he collected 612 rushing yards and 234 receiving yards. The back is an excellent receiver, having caught 101 passes in his career with six receiving TDs.
Unfortunately, Gaskin fell out of favor in Miami after an injury-riddled 2022 season saw him play in just four games. Unable to build off of his solid 2021 season, the Dolphins will now turn elsewhere.
Gaskin will provide a nice complimentary option for the Vikes, as he is undoubtedly the best pass-catching back on the roster.
A corresponding move will need to be made as the Vikings have a full 53-man roster.
