Vikings rookie Jordan Addison is not starting his NFL career off on the best note.

The young receiver was cited by police last Thursday for traveling 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. In Minnesota, drivers who are cited for speeds in excess of 100 mph can have their licenses revoked for at least six months.

Addison's excuse for why he was traveling so fast makes the story even more wild.

Kevin Seifert of ESPN reported that Addison claimed he was going that fast due to his "dog having an emergency at home."

While sad if true, there is reason to believe that Addison may be fabricating this "dog emergency."

Immediately after the incident became public, Addison apologized for his behavior, saying he "made a mistake and used poor judgment." It seems that this would have been a perfect opportunity to mention the dog incident, but Addison did not do so.

Addison was not arrested but he did receive misdemeanor charges for speeding and reckless driving.

This whole ordeal is an unnecessary distraction for Addison and the team. The receiver had already missed much of the offseason program due to injury, so he could be even further behind if any discipline comes of this.

The Viking rookies reported to training camp on Sunday and the rest of the team will report on Tuesday. Hopefully, this incident comes and goes and Addison only returns to the headlines for his play on the field.
