The Minnesota Vikings drafted Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the 10th pick in April's NFL Draft. He's expected to be the Vikings' quarterback of the future and he very well could be, but there is another guy on the roster that is still looking to prove himself and this is the year that he could do it. We're talking about Sam Darnold.

The former third overall pick has had some trouble living up to his draft status and a lot of it has to do with how poorly things went when he was in New York. He went through two really bad head coaches and offensive coordinators before being sent to Carolina. When things started to look up there, the team chose to draft Bryce Young and didn't bring him back. Then he signed with the 49ers after they had made their choice with Brock Purdy.

In Minnesota Kevin O'Connell is saying that Darnold is going to be QB1 going into camp. Here's his chance to, at the very least, play out this one year deal and get a shot to start somewhere else. He's taking it very seriously at the moment. Darnold spent last week working with a quarterback guru.

Former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer is one of the preeminent quarterback gurus in the game today. He's worked with some of the top quarterbacks in the league. Darnold getting some time with him could help his game out a lot before he reports to camp in less than two weeks.

There he'll get a chance to push off the McCarthy experiment for at least one year and prove he can be a starter in this league. He's still just 27-years-old. We'll see if he can do it.
