This weekend, the Minnesota Vikings (10-2) can win the NFC North with a win over the Detroit Lions (5-7). They are already in the postseason, but victory brings them one win closer to a first-round bye and home field through the playoffs.
Despite the line being only three points, the Lions are the surprise favorite going into this matchup. A rematch from earlier this season when the Vikings took game one 28-24. Since then, the feel around each team has changed.
So it's understandable.
Despite a two-game win streak, many still haven't got the taste out of their mouths from a 40-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago.
On the other side, the Lions are winners of four of their last five. The lone loss coming from a last-second thriller on Thanksgiving against the first place Buffalo Bills.
On top of that are the Vikings defensive deficiencies. Not only do they allow more passing yards, but their run defense has been a key factor in their losses and close games.
The Detroit Lions average 127 rush yards per game, on the legs of Jamaal Williams and D'Andre Swift. Having exceeded that mark five times, going 2-3 and scoring 34 points per game.
Minnesota has allowed 120+ yards on the ground in six games, going 4-2 in those matchups. Allowing 26.2 points per game.
The Minnesota Vikings have a wonderful opportunity here to win the North and put pressure on the other division leaders.
They can't afford to not take advantage and let the rushing attack of one of the league's top offenses push them out of contention for the number one seed.
