The Minnesota Vikings are in an odd position this offseason in regards to needs.
While the most pressing needs come at the secondary, interior offensive line, defensive line and possibly with one more wide receiver. Especially with the future of Adam Thielen in question.
However, we may instead see a glimpse into the not-so immediate future of the franchise. In particular how they address the QB position.
Remember, even though QB Kirk Cousins is coming off one of his best seasons of his career, that shouldn't stop the Vikings from looking at what's next.
His contract enters into a void year into 2024 and would give the Vikings an out should they choose to.
Minnesota has already indicated as much using a top-100 draft pick in 2021 on Kellen Mond. Considered a developmental starter type of quarterback. Ultimately that didn't work out. However, the idea is clearly in the back of their minds.
Following in the footsteps of teams like Kansas City (Patrick Mahomes), Green Bay Packers (Jordan Love) and San Francisco 49ers (Trey Lance) of drafting the eventual successor while still having a viable starter for the here and now.
Even though they don't pick until 23rd overall, either staying put or moving up in the draft for an eventual starting quarterback is a move to watch out for.
Names like Florida's Anthony Richardson or Tennessee's Hendon Hooker are popular names. Players who wouldn't start as rookies but have high enough ceilings that waiting a year into development could land dividends.
The kind that could alter the Minnesota Vikings fortunes.
