The NFL is doubling down on one of its most embarrassing mishaps of the 2022 season.
In last week’s historic comeback win over the Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chandon Sullivan scooped up a fumble, returning it for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
However, officials blew the play dead, costing Sullivan a touchdown for the second time in the game. In a moment of frustration after the officials made an unacceptable error, Sullivan removed his helmet in disgust.
Sullivan was flagged for a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, which was ridiculous considering the monumental mistake the officiating crew had just made.
As if cheating him and the Vikings out of two touchdowns wasn’t enough, the NFL issued a $9,444 fine to Sullivan on Friday.
This laughable ruling gives the league a black eye. Not only did the NFL’s officials punish Sullivan and his team on the field, but now they’re taking money out of his wallet. Commissioner Roger Goodell continues on his path in making the wrong kind of enemies.
