Pro Football Focus listed cornerback Duke Shelley as the Vikings player that showed the most improvement in 2022.
Here is PFF’s excerpt on Shelley:
“Taking over as a starter in Week 15, Shelley produced 70.0-plus PFF coverage grades in all five games to close out the season. From 288 snaps in coverage, he allowed just 22 receptions, none of which resulted in a touchdown, and registered an interception and 11 pass breakups.”
#Vikings CB Duke Shelley has gotten better every single week. You can see the excitement in getting his 1st #NFL INT vs the team that didn’t believe he could get it done. Well @DukeSaysGo is getting it done. He has earned the right to be a solid playoff contributor. pic.twitter.com/qnPks16V0C
Shelley’s first season in Minnesota showed signs of promise on a defense which proved to be vulnerable in the secondary. He arrived in Minnesota after spending his first three seasons with an NFC North rival in the Chicago Bears.
Shelley is an unrestricted free agent in 2023, but that doesn’t automatically rule him out from returning to Minnesota. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores will take a close look at the defense and determine whether or not Shelley makes sense for the unit next season.
