Even though the Vikings are in a great spot to potentially win the NFC North, they could get a wild card spot due to the voids in talent they have across the roster. With that said, it's never too early to begin looking forward toward a very pivotal offseason.
Here at A to Z Sports, we are starting to preview a really interesting 2025 NFL Draft with mock drafts, including ones that are multiple rounds. Ian Valentino did just that and the Vikings had five picks.
28. Darien Porter, CB, Iowa State
A former receiver-turned-corner, Darien Porter is another gigantic defender making his way up draft boards. He's been one of the best statistical corners in the class, and his 6-foot-4 frame is promising for what's next. A savant in zone, Porter would thrive with Brian Flores' aggressive defense, so long as he can catch onto the concepts.
97. Kamari Ramsey, S, USC
146: Jack Velling, TE, Michigan State
164: Jordan Hancock, CB, Ohio State
242: Maurice Westmoreland, EDGE, UTEP
Let's take a look at how Valentino broke this down. Taking a cornerback with a lot of talent and size makes sense in theory, but it feels a little bit high for him to go. That could all change in the next five months.
The real concern is how the rest of the draft was approached. Considering the Vikings needs, how was a safety the pick with the third round compensatory selection? Sure, Camryn Bynum is a free agent and Harrison Smith is likely retiring. However, They have Theo Jackson ready to step into a starting role and defensive tackle is still the biggest need on the roster. It doesn't make much sense that the Vikings didn't take a defensive tackle.
There is a lot that can change from now until April's draft, but this would be a highly controversial group of picks.
