The saga surrounding free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is unfortunately continuing. He appeared Thursday afternoon on The Pat McAfee Show to adress his future and, of course, the Minnesota Vikings came up.
Right now, Rodgers is keeping his options open and "focusing on his personal life" but the biggest takeaway is that he isn't waiting for the Vikings to come around. That in itself is a huge weight off the fanbase's shoulders.
Aaron Rodgers makes an admission about his future
The Vikings being linked to Rodgers has been the most frustrating storyline of the offseason. It was evident that the Vikings would be going with J.J. McCarthy going into the season, with the possibility of either Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones coming in to compete with him.
Rodgers wasn't going to do that and even made a pitch to mentor McCarthy to the Vikings.
Which is where Rodgers entered the equation. When the four-time MVP reached out to the Vikings, with the idea of making a one-year run at a Lombardi and tying it to being a willing mentor for McCarthy, the team felt it had to listen. The proposition, of course, was different than the other two—they’d be jamming the pause button on the idea of playing McCarthy, rather than generating competition and multiple quarterback options.
The other really interesting tidbit is Rodgers admitting that he would play for just $10 million. That salary would have fit under the Vikings' salary cap constraints, espeically since the Vikings allegedly offered Jones that amount with a little bit extra before he signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
Fortunately for the Vikings' fanbase, the discussion about Rodgers coming to Minnesota should be put to rest at this point.
