The Minnesota Vikings have struggled to stop the run consistently in the second half of the season. That could end up changing for the better in the playoffs.

During his mid-week press conference, head coach Kevin O'Connell announced they will be opening the practice window for defensive tackle Taki Taimani, which could give them the boost they need.

Vikings activate Taki Taimani's 21-day practice window

The run defense for the Vikings finished the season second in the National Football League in run defense, but in the games that were close throughout, they were prone to allow a large amount of yards. One of the reasons why the run defense was so good was due to the explosive passing game.

Taimani has played just 70 snaps but was a factor in occupying blockers and driving them into the backfield. He also is the only backup nose tackle they have on the roster, which will help keep the defensive line fresh.

O'Connell said back in December ahead of the Monday night game against the Chicago Bears that Taimani could return.

"Yes, he is a guy that could come back. Just continues to work through the later parts of his rehab just making sure he is 100% healthy when we need to call upon him."

Time will tell when Taimani is set to return.
