The Minnesota Vikings controlled the game from the first quarter onward against the New York Giants and it led to a dominating 28-6 victory.
One of the biggest plays of the game came after the Vikings had just given the ball back to the Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones tried throwing a screen pass. Edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel figured it out quickly and intercepted him for a touchdown.
Andrew Van Ginkel breaks own interception record
The interception Van Ginkel had on Jones happened in just 1.16 seconds. It was the fastest interception in the National Football League over the last two seasons. The one he beat? It was his own when he picked off Sam Howell of the Washington Commanders in week 13 of 2023 in 1.26 seconds.
That's an impressive thing to do once, let alone twice in the last two seasons. It shows a great understanding of the game and ability to capitalize on. The Vikings aggressive defense will need some of that this season and Van Ginkel has already delivered in his first season.
Van Ginkel's versatility will prove to be huge for the Vikings this season, especially with how Flores likes to move players around in the box and on the back end. Making plays like this will help him feel more confident he can do just that.
