The coaching carousel has become increasingly unclear over the last few days. So far, only two coaching jobs have been secured:
- New England Patriots: Mike Vrabel
- Chicago Bears: Ben Johnson
Multiple open jobs on the market are still in question:
- Dallas Cowboys
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Las Vegas Raiders
- New York Jets
- New Orleans Saints
Within those open jobs, some candidates feel locked in with others raising major question marks. One of those involves the Minnesota Vikings.
Brian Flores could be in play for the Jacksonville Jaguars
One of the interesting elements of the coaching search for the Jaguars has been how wild it's been. Monday afternoon showed the Jaguars narrowed their search down to three candidates with none of them being Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Just two days later, the search has changed. The presumed top candidate was Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen, but he declined to continue pursuing the job Wednesday morning.
Where does this leave Flores? With only two more interviews remaining for the Jaguars in the second round, that could put him back in contention for the job. One of the biggest roadblocks is Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke.
Arguably the biggest reason that the Jaguars have had difficulties attracting a head coach is because of Baalke's presence. Johnson and Coen likely decided against the job for that reason.
Would Flores be willing to take that on? We don't know for sure about that. He did have a first interview with the Jaguars last weekend, along with interviews with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets. Those interviews didn't result in either a second interview and neither has the Jaguars. However, that could change with Coen choosing to bow out.
