The Minnesota Vikings have a crucial game against the Detroit Lions coming up in four weeks and hopefully, it will be for the NFC North.
The Lions played fellow NFC North rival Green Bay Packers on Thursday night and pulled out the win by a score of 34-31. It was a back-and-forth game that saw both offenses thrive and defenses struggle to stop the other.
It also had a result that wasn't advantageous for the Vikings, as they still need a loss by the Detroit Lions in order to win the division.
Byron Murphy Jr. gives Lions bulletin board material
Everyone has seen and heard plenty about the Lions over the course of the season, including after the 31-29 win they scored over the Vikings in October. Looking back at that game, there are some that never would have known the Vikings played the Lions well and led in the fourth quarter.
The national discussion has seeped into the Vikings' locker room and cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. is one that is sick of it.
I'm not liking, you know, the Detroit talk right now," said Murphy when speaking to SKOR North's Darren Wolfson. That's just keep hearing it over and over, I'm just over them. I'm over Green Bay too. But you know Detroit, they're just talking about them too much, and I'm just over that as well."
You would think the Lions have achieved sainthood the way the national media glazes over them. Sure, they are a good football team, but they needed last second field goals to beat both the Vikings and the Packers, and a simple miscommunication was all that was standing in the way from the Vikings picking up the victory back in October.
Is it smart for Murphy to say what he did? That's up to interpretation. However, giving the Lions any motivation is a questionable decision.
If the Vikings back it up and get the win in week 18, this is a bunch of nothing.
