Vikings agree to extension with Andrew Van Ginkel
It felt like a matter of time before the Vikings gave someone an extension after the successful season. Van Ginkel was an obvious candidate after he had his best season at age 29. He finished with a career-high 11.5 sacks, nearly matching his career total prior to joining the Vikings at 17.0.
Not only was Van Ginkel great at getting to the quarterback, he was awesome in a multitude of ways. Van Ginkel hit the quarterback 19 times, got a whopping 18.0 tackles for loss, and two pick-sixes with multiple others coming very close. He also made the Pro Bowl and was a second-team All Pro, beating out teammate Jonathan Greenard.
The Vikings had a lot different options with an extension, something they had planned for when they signed Van Ginkel last offseason, tacking on four void years to his two-year, $20 million contract last March.

With the Vikings in a really good spot, they could afford to give Van Ginkel the pay raise he deserves. Now, $23 million is still $17 million less than what Myles Garrett is making in Cleveland. It's also likely to drop his cap hit this season and spread out the rest of that $23 million across five years, something that helps the Vikings' salary cap situation.
This also doesn't say anything about Dallas Turner, as you need three plus edge rushers, especially with how Brian Flores likes to call his defense. The Vikings continue to go all-in on trying to make a run this year.
