The Minnesota Vikings came into today without a very clear path into the playoffs, especially with the Seahawks losing to the Steelers in the earlier window.

The odds were never going to be perfect for the Vikings, even with a win over the Packers, but at least the chances would still be somewhat tangible.

Now, those chances are basically dead. The Vikings losing to the Packers all but ends their season.

The Vikings had a 34% chance of making the playoffs coming into the game according to The NFL Playoff Picture. With a win, that number would've jumped up to 52%. A loss basically kills those chances, putting the Vikings at the 4% chance where they currently sit.

This was the definition of a must-win game, and Minnesota did themselves no favors.

Most people probably didn’t anticipate seeing the team in a position like this after the loss of Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson for a period, and a revolving door at quarterback. Now, the team crawling back into spitting distance of the promised land just to put a dud on the field against a rival in a moment like this stings all the more.

This was all a team could ever ask for given the season the Vikings have had. It may not have been total control of their own destiny, but it is as close they could get given the circumstances.

Now, the Vikings need several seemingly-impossible things to happen just to make it in, and betting on that 4% chance seems like a whole lot of emotion for nothing after this bad loss.
