The Minnesota Vikings are in the market for a new defensive assistant after the Arizona Cardinals hired Sam Siefkes on Thursday.
If it feels like the Cardinals are hoarding a bunch of coaches with Vikings ties, it’s because they are. Arizona currently has four former Vikings coaches on its staff heading into 2023.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon, who served as the Vikes’ assistant DBs coach from 2014-2017, has assembled quite the collection of former assistants. Nick Rallis, now the Cards’ DC, Robert Rodriguez (D-Line) and Drew Petzing, Arizona’s OC, round out the bunch.
The good news is that newly hired defensive coordinator Brian Flores can go out and find Siefkes’ replacement. Of course, Flores served as the Steelers’ linebackers coach in 2022 before being hired by Minnesota. Perhaps his expertise in the area could expedite the Vikings’ search.
