The Minnesota Vikings have seen plenty of its star power walk out of the door in the 2023 offseason. Though the Vikes will be without some of its key players from seasons past, Danielle Hunter is climbing the ranks as one of the best edge rushers in football.
Hunter endured plenty of success in 2022. The 28-year-old quarterback destroyer tallied 10.5 sacks last season, earning his third Pro Bowl nod in his seven-year career. While Vikings fans are well aware of the impact Hunter has on a football game, he is starting to receive the recognition he deserves from a national perspective.
Pro Football Focus is the latest national media outlet to show Hunter some love. PFF recently released a list of the Top-32 edge rushers in the NFL, which featured Hunter at No. 11.
From PFF: Hunter may be three years removed from his impressive 2019 season, but I don’t think enough people are giving him the credit he deserves for his impressive 2022 season, as it was the second-most productive season of his career. He finished the year with a 15.9% pass rush win rate and 85 total pressures.
Hunter has notched four seasons with double-digit sack numbers since being selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. What makes his 2022 campaign even more impressive is the fact that Hunter was coming off a torn pectoral injury, which derailed his 2021 season.
For the Vikings to repeat as NFC North champs Hunter must carry a pass rush after the disappointing departure of Za’Darius Smith. Playing under the direction of Brian Flores, expect Hunter’s momentum to continue with another tremendous season in the trenches.
