When it comes to the NFL Draft, rumors and smokescreens are everywhere, but one objectively true fact related to this year is the Minnesota Vikings and the franchise's desire to find its quarterback of the future.
The options are aplenty, the only problem is the Vikings' first pick is at No. 11 and the top prospects will have been off the board by then. However, there's Minnesota's second first-round pick, No. 23, that puts them in the running for a potential trade-up.
Therefore, the team is doing its due diligence on all quarterback prospects and that includes Hesiman Trophy winner and former LSU Tigers QB, Jayden Daniels.
Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Vikings brass are taking Daniels out to dinner in Baton Rouge in order to gauge the potential fit.
The Arizona Cardinals make a ton of sense as a trade partner at No. 4, but the Vikings would have to move up to at least No. 3 in order to have a realistic shot at drafting Daniels. And even then, there's a ton of heat surrounding Daniels and the Washington Commanders – he seems like a lock to go there, at this point.
We know the Chicago Bears are basically a lock to draft Caleb Williams and if the Commanders like Daniels as much as it's portrayed, then trading up to No. 2 would not only be extremely expensive – it's probably highly unlikely the Commanders are willing to part ways with the pick. Especially since they have five more picks in the top-100 selections. Meaning, they aren't suffering from a lack of picks, so a trade back would only benefit them if it made absolute sense.
I don't think it would take three first-rounders to move from 11 to 4, but that would likely be the case to move to Nos. 3 or 2, simply because the teams picking there (Patriots and Commanders) need a QB in the worst way. That, on top of prices naturally increasing with each pick in the top-5, will make it a hefty bill.
Either way, if the Vikings really want their guy – they'll make it happen. And it's going to be very interesting to see just how far they're willing to go.
