Vikings meet with star WR prospect at NFL Combine
The Vikings are investing time into one of the most electrifying wide receivers in the Class of 2023.
The Minnesota Vikings could be trying to catch lightning in a bottle for the second time in this year’s NFL Draft.
The Vikings struck gold with Justin Jefferson in 2019, but the latest news could hint at the team going back to the wide receiver well in this year’s draft class.
One of the most talented receivers in the 2023 draft class is Boston College WR Zay Flowers. In four seasons at Boston College, Flowers compiled 200 receptions for 3,056 yards and 29 touchdowns, all of which are school records.
His production in college certainly caught the Vikings’ eye, who met with Flowers at the Combine according to vikesinsider.
Flowers is expected to be one of the first receivers off the board in what most consider to be an underwhelming class of pass catchers. However, with the 23rd overall selection, Flowers could fall right into the Vikings’ lap.
Flowers stands at five-foot-nine, but his elite speed and route-running abilities have many teams salivating over his potential. With the Vikes yet to make a decision on Adam Thielen, who could be a salary cap casualty due to his nearly $20 million cap hit in 2023, Flowers makes perfect sense for Minnesota.
The Vikings would be able to younger and faster, two traits that most receiver-needy teams are looking to achieve, by drafting Flowers. He would also be a complimentary wideout for Jefferson, who has a different skill set.
Minnesota has a critical decision to make in the first round, but don’t be surprised if Flowers walks out of the green room wearing Vikings purple on draft day.
