The Minnesota Vikings are set to play their fifth international game since 2013 when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. It’s the second time these teams will meet, as the Vikings got the win 34-27 in the 2013 season in a game played in England.

This is the first ever game playing in Ireland, and it will be at Croke Parke in Dublin. Ahead of the game, the Vikings made a move to fortify the roster.

Vikings elevate Cam Akers for Sunday’s game

On Saturday afternoon, the Vikings elevated running back Cam Akers for Sunday’s game.

This will be the second elevation for Akers this season. He was signed to the practice squad after the Vikings’ 22-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, where running back Aaron Jones injured his hamstring. He was subsequently placed on injured reserve, and will miss at least the next three games with the ability to return in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Akers was added by the Vikings to fortify the running back room after not just the Jones injury, but also Ty Chandler’s knee injury suffered in the season opener against the Chicago Bears. He got activated last week against the Cincinnati Bengals and got some offensive snaps. He got five carries in the 48-10 blowout for a whopping 19 yards.

This week, Akers will likely see some more run as the backup running back, as he’s gotten one game with the Vikings under his belt, and head coach Kevin O’Connell likes to rotate his running backs. Plus, it will keep Jordan Mason fresh.

The Vikings and Steelers kick off at 8:30 A.M. CT.
