Gaskin was always likely to be elevated by the franchise for Sunday's game, especially after he was named RB3. The reason he is on the practice squad isn't due to his ability, it's a procedural move. The Vikings don't have to guarantee his contract if he signs after week one. It's not great for the player but it's smart business for the Vikings.

McCain being elevated is likely a special teams move. He does provide depth at both safety and on special teams. He played for Brian Flores in Miami and understands the defense very well.

This is the first elevation for both players and they will each have two standard elevations left this season.
