It's been an exhausting couple of weeks for Minnesota Vikings fans talking about quarterback Aaron Rodgers signing with the team. It's been a constant across both local and national media with some taking things to the extreme.

The reporting has been all over the place when it comes to Rodgers. On Wednesday, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was asked about it and closed the door on Rodgers…for now.

"Right now, you know, given all our scenario planning, we're happy with our room. And you know, obviously we're going to talk a lot about agent McCarthy, but Brett Rypien, who something we brought in last off season, we thought made a lot of great decisions quick positioning processing, and people give credit for accurate passers, so we're excited about him, and we're always going to keep looking to see if we can upgrade that position, just like every other position."

For now, the real story is simple: the Vikings won't be signing Rodgers unless there is a change in their situation.

Adam Schefter speculates on Aaron Rodgers potentially retiring

We know that the Vikings, despite having discussed bringing Rodgers in both internally and with him, aren't going to be bringing him in. Plus, Russell Wilson just signed with the New York Giants, eliminating them from potentially being a landing spot for Rodgers.

The question here is simple: Why hasn't Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers?

There are two likely reasons why he hasn't signed yet:

  • He's waiting on the Vikings to change their mind
  • He's considering retiring

ESPN's Adam Schefter did a radio spot in Milwaukee talking about that while saying is was pure speculation.

"First of all, they both need each other right now, frankly, and that's if Aaron wants to play, which I'm not convinced yet that he does. Until I hear him say, I want to play, then I can tell you, people are asking that question about whether he wants to play. Like it's come up. People have said to me, 'Hey, are you sure he wants to play?' No, I'm not sure. I'm hearing he might not want to play, which, by the way, again, I don't want to speak for him, because I don't want to get called out. But, you know, we're we're speculating, but it shouldn't be that hard. Like, either you want to play for the Steelers, you don't right? Like, what are we waiting for?

"I don't see too many free agents who go visit a team for six hours, think about something, and what's the question? What's the issue they want you? You don't want them. But clearly, you have questions. I don't know if that's playing for that team, living in that city, playing football, there's something that's holding you back because they want them."

This is a very interesting factor when it comes to Rodgers. Does he want to play next season or is it that he just doesn't want to play with a team other than the Vikings? Time will give us that answer, but right now, the speculation won't die until he makes a decision.
